Growing up on an "organic" farm, she grew up understanding how all of nature works together, even people! "We were stewards of the land, of our domestic animals and the water resources that graced our stream and wells. We were a very self-sufficient family by most standards -- only going to town once a week to get staples such as flour, sugar and seeds, etc."
Her parents were self employed, with a working small farm and carpentry business for nearly neighbors and small businesses. The six siblings all had their chores and special projects such as raising a calf of their own, favorite vegetables to nurture, and even a cash crop or two. Carolyn's cash crop was dill for the neighbors who stopped by to buy the herb for their pickle making! She also honed her design and craft skills in her father's woodworking shop where she learned about the variety of woods and tools required to turn wood into furniture,
Community activism was born here as well. Her parents raised their voice about city annexation, the mandatory hookup to natural gas lines (Mom was delighted, Day objected!) and participation in school events, etc.
Being surrounded by brothers and one sister, Carolyn had to develop an understanding of technologies early just to have someone to play and visit with! This early grounding in farming, vehicles and manufacturing comes in handy as she writes about green technologies and how localism, and small scale manufacturing and building retrofits can be optimized for sustainable green communities and economies.
California Green Solutions is the culmination of a long career in business communications for technology and community service organizations -- definitely high tech:high touch.
With a platform of websites and blogs, Carolyn is building a platform that brings visibility to small businesses in the green sector, and brings solution-oriented news, training and articles to their customers.
